Electric vehicles
Washington State's electric vehicle registrations in Python: adoption by county and census tract, growth since 2017, battery-electric against plug-in hybrids, makes and models, and the zero ranges, ZIP-centroid points and VIN prefixes in the data.
Washington State publishes every battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle registered with its Department of Licensing, 300,142 in October 2026, with make, model, model year, range and the owner's county and census tract, plus a monthly count of all vehicles by county since 2017. It is one of the few vehicle-level EV records in the US.
The guides here load the data, map adoption as a share of all vehicles and EVs per square kilometre of each tract, chart growth month by month, compare battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, rank makes and models by place, and separate the fleet's stock share from its yearly additions. Three pages deal with the traps: ranges of zero that mean not researched, a location point that is a ZIP code centre, and a ten-character VIN that is not one vehicle.
